Insurance
jp4life
There seems to be a lot of promises out there where people can get free quotes on insurance. Here is one site that offers auto insurance rates and quotes: http://www.automobileinsurance.me/go/click.php?tid=511261 . It is a simple enough website. You plug in the info and click on any of the auto insurance companies they list based off of your information.

To be completely honest, I am sick of auto insurance. Most likely because we have to pay over $100 a month for a car that's probably not worth $1,000. (My husband and I own a '87 Cadillac de Ville) I am also sick of insurance companies at large. This is not helped by the fact that over the course of my pregnancy ( I am 35 weeks tomorrow) my husband and I have been struggling with insurance and medical bills. I think I explained that in further detail in an earlier rant. Essentially, my husband lost his job and so we both lost health insurance. Unemployment took forever to work and too late as we could not afford the high rates they demanded and neither can we afford the insanely high rates the doctor's office is asking. Now we are turning to Medicaid, but if I can't get the immediate temp coverage I won't even be approved or denied before the baby if born- there is a 45 day waiting period. Oy vay... insurance is way too detrimental to society, yet we keep it around.

Now my husband and I are trying scrap up enough money to pay all these insurance bills, one of which being a huge pain is the auto insurance. Perhaps switching would help. Perhaps changing it from his name to mine would make things better. In the end though all I want is probably no different than what almost everyone wants- security. I am not looking to be rich. I want to be able to go to the grocery store and buy food without stressing about the cost so incredibly much. It is smart to keep to a budget, but spending most of a week worrying about the cost of food is not good. Neither is constantly worrying about filling up the gas tank or wondering where we can and can not go due to gas prices.

Well, I hope at least some one found the website I posted above and will post again on the bottom to be helpful. Other wise, I apologize for yet another rant (which I admittedly cut short due to me getting more and more off topic).  The only nice thing I can say about this site is that it doesn't require you to give your phone number to get the quotes. So there is less with the spam phone calls. Or, at the very least, the spam calls you may reccieve anytime soon won't be from here. (Hurray for people trying to sell you magazines! Has anyone else had them charge you money after you said "NO!"?)

Preparing for Halloween
jp4life
Halloween is coming soon-ish! Yay! A time for costumes, candy, trick-or-treating, and parties. Here are some ideas I've found or come up with help Halloween be fun for cheap.

Costumes:
1) Ninja (inspired by my husband)- wear black pants, shoes, and long sleeve shirt. Then take a black shirt and wrap it around your head (make sure it is secure!). If you have any, just add black gloves. Want a weapon? Unscrew the top of a broom and use the stick as your weapon. Or you can make a fan with two Popsicle sticks and either decorative tissue paper used for gifts or construction paper.

2) Pirate (also inspired by my husband)- wear an old pair of jeans, preferably ripped, and black boots. Also, wear a white long or short sleeved button-up shirt. You can also take an old black shirt, cut the sleeves off and the front middle part until it looks like a vest. Put this over the white shirt. A bandana works great as head gear. Really want a sword and no one around who has one? Walmart has really cheap play swords. Even cheaper, especially in quality, is play swords from the Dollar Tree. However, the Dollar Tree does carry small glow-in-the-dark swords.

3) The Hulk- take an old shirt and rip/cut it into shreds, but make sure you can still wear is so it looks like a horribly torn up shirt. Take short or long jeans and cut until short and make it look beat up. Mess up your hair. If you have old sneakers you don't fit into or want cut so your toes poke out.

4) Ghost- everyone knows how to make a ghost costume- put a sheet over yourself and cut two holes for eyes. For a fun twist, cut a lot of holes into the sheet for a Charlie Brown twist.

Candy & Party:

Candy for trick or treaters can get expensive. So why not hold a party where everyone has to buy a certain amount of candy. Everyone chips in a little of their candy to the bucket for trick-or-treaters. The rest can be used for gambling games, like black jack or pirates dice.

More random than the random button?
jp4life
Those  who have stumbled via the random button know how random it can be. One can visit a site full of cute puppies, an article about the lack of violence caused by video games alone, and a comic about a cloud-figure bleeding. What could possibly be more random than that? Craigslist just might be the answer.

Craigslist can be awesome. It has a place to find everything from a date, a job, and lots and lots of free stuff. The free page holds lots of wonders and repeating posts. However, treasures can be found. And by treasures I mean some of the most random stuff ever. For example, I found free telemarketing cubicles today. What can one do with those?I guess if you own a business that needs them this is a jack pot. Otherwise: why? Also, apparently the free page is a place for free health screenings to be advertised. They will screen everything from your kidney to your teeth. There is also tiki torches with fuel, interior bedroom door, and "Free Little People and a few other things." I can't leave out the endless supplies of hot tubes and dirt.

All the things I mentioned I found on today's first page. No, I am not advertising for anyone. I sincerely thought this was interesting and wrote about it on my own. Don't believe it's there? Check it out! BTW, I was looking at the Denver, CO free page.

Writer's Block: Successful Goal
jp4life
Secretariat is the impossible true story of one of the greatest athletes of all time and the extraordinary woman who believed in him. How has the strength and support of an extraordinary woman helped you achieve an impossible goal?

Ultimately, the greater driver of success is talent. The talent gets you started on the track naturally, this including the talent of having such a strong will to win that it overcomes the talent specific to that area. For example, one may not be naturally talented at doing well at school, but can have the natural talent to have such a strong "will to win" that one can do just as well in school as the one naturally talented at doing well at school.

Sadly, the current state of the world scews the idea of success in general, never mind the driver of success. Hollywood loves to portray the greater driver of success as the will to win (ie: "Rudy" and nearly all inspirational movies). However, the actual world of Hollywood only allows talent to reign as a driver of success. At least, it did when the people in Hollywood (actors, musicians, ect) had talent- a dying race in Hollywood these days. Now on the front Hollywood's success don't have much in talent or self-will. Meanwhile, the successful people behind the actors and musicians get there far more due to money and connections than for any other reason.

So when I say talent is the greater driver or success, I do not mean it to be taken in the context that immediately seems to pop into mind due to constant exposure of the false thing. I say talent is the greater driver of success, because that is how we get the Einsteins of the world. And talent of having the "will to win" is how we can get the Mother Teresas of the world. After all, when one succeeds at something, don't you say "he/she is talented"?

Mexican Rice Stuff
jp4life
Here is a recipe that I came up with on my own and have been tweaking here and there.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup of black beans
- 1 cup of rice
- Colby Montery Jack or Mexican Style cheese
- salsa, any type
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
- garlic powder, to taste

Directions:
1) Cook the rice. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder before the rice is done cooking. Suggestion: try 1/2 teaspoon of salt and1/4-1/2 teaspoon of pepper.

2) Cook the beans. This can be as simple as putting the can in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. Don't forget to drain the beans!

3) Add rice to casserole dish. Add beans on top of the rice. Then sprinkle the cheese (previously grated) on top to cover.

4) Cook at 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes.

5) Let the dish cool. Add salsa and serve.

I came up with this recipe trying to use the black beans we received from WIC. I hope it is helpful. And suggests are welcome. :)

Flu shot and pregnancy
jp4life
My doctor told me yesterday that I should get a flu shot asap. We told her that I could not take it that day, due to a tight schedule. So I am suppose to get a flu shot in a couple of weeks at my next doctor's appointment. However, I am not so sure that is a good idea. I have become fairly distrusting of vaccines and am particularly worried about the mercury content of the vaccine and it affecting my baby. After all, isn't the reason why pregnant women shouldn't eat too much (or no) seafood is because of the possible mercury content? And now I am suppose to be injected with mercury?

Also, I keep hearing that it is suppose to help protect the baby after birth. This makes me more worried about mercury going into my baby. It makes me wonder how bad it is for my baby to get the flu after she is born. Not that I want to make her sick or are unconcerned by this possibility. I just need to know if its worth the risk. As of right now, I don't think so. However, I know more information on the subject would be very helpful.

I am current;y 33w pregnant, due November 25. I am not pregnant for long during flu season, but that does mean the first few months of my baby's life will be during flu season. She will be in contact with other little ones as for a little while we will be living with my family-in-law, of which there are 7 children (excluding my husband) ranging from 19-8month old.

Advice? Thank you!

One Question...
jp4life
I have a question I am hoping to get a good number of responses to.

Why did God name the seas and man the beasts?

Advertising...and medical care cost
jp4life
Since its kinda obvious, I might as well say it. I am trying to make some money with this blog as money is tight right now. Most blogs are not me trying to make money, but some are. Oddly enough, it is helpful in one regard other than making a little money: giving topics to talk about. Sometimes I honestly can't think of anything worth saying and so...I don't say anything at all.

This time I do have something to say: is there seriously any way to make dealing with doctors and hospitals financially easier? If there was ever an area that does the most damage to someone seemingly on purpose. I had to go to the doctor because I discovered I was pregnant. When we went into the office he had his job and we had insurance from that job (or so we thought).  I was told I was about 3-4 months pregnant, but they took some blood just to make sure I was pregnant. On the ride home my husband got the phone call saying he was laid off. Later, we'd find out that the insurance wasn't covering that doctor's appoint or any of the other ones I had shortly after, even though we were sure we'd be covered for a little time after he was laid off. Also, to make sure we were covered, my husband filed for us to be covered under the same insurance we had when we was working. They said everything went through, but after no insurance cards showed up he called them and found out they had no record of us anywhere. It took three tried and roughly three months for that to work out. In the mean time, I've been needing to go to my obgyn, because of the pregnancy. We currently have almost paid off insurance to be covered and have a huge stack of bills for lab work. The most expensive lab work was, of course, is the unnecessary pregnancy test I took the day we thought he was still working. Health insurance is so expensive and pure medical bills are beyond reasonably too expensive. I'm not the first or last to complain about health insurance. However, if any of you reading have any advice, please post it! Thank you.
